Outdoor Burning

Island County Public Health issues Burn Permits to the residents of Island County.   When a Burn Ban is not in effect, permits can be obtained at the Public Health Department in Coupeville or Camano Island. Written permits for Land Clearing Burning and Residential Burning are required by State Law. 
Land Clearing Burning:
Pile size must not exceed 25 feet in diameter x 25 feet high.
Permit Fees: $100 for a 1-day permit.
Residential Burning:
Pile size must not exceed 10 feet in diameter x 10 feet high.
Permit Fees: $40 for a 3-day permit.
Recreational Burning:
Recreational fires 3 feet in diameter X 2 feet high or smaller do not need a permit.
Permanent burn ban areas (except small recreational fires) includes Oak Harbor, Coupeville, Freeland, and Langley. (See map below.)
