Pools and Spas

All public pools and spas in Island County are permitted annually.  Privately owned and privately used facilities do not require a permit.

Public Health staff inspects pools and spas, at a minimum of once per year, in accordance with Washington Administration Code 246-260 (Water Recreation Facilities).  To ensure a safe and healthy bathing environment, Public Health monitors water quality, water clarity, pool safety equipment, facility maintenance, and a variety of other safety and facility requirements as described in WAC 246-260.  All water recreational related complaints are investigated by Public Health staff.
